Life and Reality

Hello blogging world! The world I have abandoned for so long, yet I always miss the most. I still read my blog and another blog I love from time to time. Yet, it always, always feel so hard to start to write here, when you can write on Instagram caption.

2022 is coming to an end. How has your 2022 so far? Mine is... so enjoyable and...

epic.

Well, though life is not always rainbows and butterflies. Don't tell me about those storm. I know it like the back of my hand. For so many years, storms had came to my life like I was in the middle of the ocean, uncertain and hard to see where it was all going. But, as time goes by I realised that it was not always about the storms, either. Sometimes you can still see the light. Sometimes you can still feel happy.

During those hard times I learnt that happiness does not have to wait.

You don't have to wait until life is not hard anymore to be happy.

Life can always be enjoyable. Does not mean you have to be happy all the time. But, you can enjoy the hard time, as well.

a little recap of my 2022 ♡

Sometimes I wonder, when people complaining about their life, saying they want to escape their life and want to fly somewhere far away. Or when someone just came back from their holiday and say "welcome back to reality"...

Does your life feel so unbearable you want to always escape from it? If it is so, what's the point of living? What's the point of living if you only crave one short moment that only happen once in a while like end year holiday? Doesn't life should always be enjoyable? If it is not, maybe it's time to reconsider what to change about it, or what solutions could make your life enjoyable, isn't it?

Maybe a change of routines? Maybe more self care in the middle of our chaotic schedule? Maybe a good yoga in the morning? Maybe a good quality cup of coffee to start our day? Maybe meeting more friends? Maybe turning more ideas into reality? Maybe learning those skill we always longing to learn? Maybe read those books that we want to read instead one that we should read? Maybe a date to those art gallery after work with our lover? Maybe a little Jazz on a Friday night? Maybe saying no to a job we don't enjoy? Maybe saying yes to a job we always wanted to do?

Most of our life consist of what people say, mundane routines. Instead of hopping on into our private jet flying to Aman resort all the time.

So, doesn't it mean we have to work on our each and everyday, fight for it, to be worth living, instead of craving to always escape reality?

And so, to close this writing. I want to ask:

Does your days feel like reality you enjoy so much you don't want to escape from? I really hope, it is ♡

A Moment to Reflect

It's been exactly a year since the last time I posted my last writing. I still write, even if it's only in the form of Instagram's caption... I wrote my last writing on Ramadhan. And now, one year later, it's almost the end of Ramadhan again. This year is different though, and peculiarly better, because I finally can spend more time at home with my... um... spouse, getting closer to God, sadly due to COVID-19.

Turns out that the last year I still can't get over my problems. I still drowned in it and still can hardly breathe. But, despite all the problems which makes me so demotivated at times, I am feeling blessed  to finally be able to be closer, literally and metaphorically, with my spouse. Eventhough our journey might not be easy, well I guess we will always find our way back to each other. Well "Time can't erase a feeling this strong ♪"

Fortunately due to COVID-19 I got more time to think, to reflect and to balance my life. To be closer to God. To have deep conversation with my spouse. And to try better to heal from all the wound that I get. Time to move on now, I guess. Get up and live my life a little bit better and happier in each and every day.

I used to say writing is my sanctuary. But how could I forget my sanctuary these past year? Starting from this post, I really wish (and will do any effort needed) to write regularly, again.

Oh and one more good news, I started my residency at Department of Conservative Dentistry, University of Indonesia since last August 2019. Hope all goes well and may the best of todays be the worst of tomorrows. Let us heal together, dear Universe.

Children are The Future

Some Emergency School Condition in North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara,
3 Months after The 7 SR Earthquake

When I went to several emergency schools at North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara to give health education to the children those are the condition which I saw. Schools are held under a simple tent and when it was about 10 am the temperature was start to rising to an uncomfortable heat. I did not know how these children can concentrate at all. But, no, no one is complaining or show how much uncomfortable they really are.

All these children are still as excited as before to ask questions, to read, to learn.

In between the limited condition, they are all still so eager to learn. The spirit there is one you should never underestimate.

So, after speaking with the headmaster of SDN 1 Medana, one of the schools which I visited, I am willing to help them with whatever possibility that I could. I just wanted to show these children that we are not abandoning them, we are always here to have their backs, we are here to support them in reaching for another galaxies.

I would love to buy them some books, uniform for those who lost theirs in the earthquake, and some stationaries. If you wish to show some of your love to them, feel free to click this link SSFORLOMBOK  and I will be more than happy to share this love spreading journey with you. Matur Tampiasih, Terima Kasih, Thank You! :)

Humble Me, Lord

You might sometimes found me saying that in order to be fully happy money is the most important factor that should be included. Yet you also might found me saying that the real happiness lies in the sheer simplicity of the presence of my significant other.

Do you think that it is possible for one to be so kind they never once act selfish and only think about their own fulfillment? Do you think it is possible for one to be so humble they never once feel special when they are able to get the privilege others don't get? Do you think it is possible for one to be so patient they never once scream frantically over the frustation which happen without asking permission first?

I didn't think it is possible.

I always believe that a person consist of thousands of mixed up emotions and ideas. The environment they grew up in, the books they read, the people they met, the places they visited, every positive and negative occasions which were happened in their life, shape ones to be the complicated people they are today.

People are complicated.

Just because they break their promise once, it does not bluntly mean they will not be responsible on other important matters. Just because a man cheated on his spouse, it does not mean they will not be responsible and fully love his kid in the future. Just because this one woman I know is so down to earth, it does not mean she will not once brag about her privilege she get which allows her to travel the world in first class flight.

I know that for sure. So, I let my self react and act over matters in my imperfect manner. Sometimes I feel that I am nothing compared to the vast universe it makes me feel powerless and so humble, sometimes I feel so content over the privilege I get compared to others I subconsciously proud of this stupid meaningless materialistic matter. And the next time, I could find my self realise I should not be so proud so I surpress my ego and try to think about God.

Like billions other people, I am always a mixed of emotions and ideas.

Only on this one night, last August 5th, did I ever only feel one single emotion inside me. I was there experiencing the 7.0 SR earthquake which hits West Nusa Tenggara. I was there hiking up the hill trying to save my life in case Tsunami did happen. I was there seeing the little area went dark when the electricity cut off.

And what I feel was only one emotion. Humility. You humble me, Lord.

I never thought I could ever be so simple. I never thought I could only feel one emotion inside me. But it did happen.

Yesterday, I grew one year older. And this month has taught me more than the last 26 years of my life has been. And I never thought that it takes this big momentum to be able to make me feeling this one simple emotion in front of my God.

So, thank you for this year, for teaching me to humble my self, my dear God ❤️

🕉️ ~ Om

🕉️ ring (Yin Jewelry For The Soul), Buddha bracelet (bought at one little shop at Gili Air),
Dress (This is April), Sandals (bought at one little shop at Ubud), Sunglasses (Giordano)

🕉️ is a sacred sound and symbol both in Hinduism and Buddhism. My trip to Tibet and Nepal made me love both Hinduism's and Buddhism's core spirit and way of life more and more each day. For it only means good and brings peace to my soul. A lot of mantra begins with this symbol. And as for the meaning, it might be various. From "the infinite language, the infinite knowledge", "essence of breath, life, everything that exists", until "with which one is liberated".

But no matter which meaning we mean when reciting this mantra, it only means good. And how happy I was when I found this little jewelry shop at one corner of Gili Air, Yin Jewelry for The Soul, and accidentaly found the ring. It is funny how bringing this symbol with me makes me feel like bringing good luck whenever I go.

Oh and when I walk along the little alley at Gili Air I also stumbled upon a little souvenir shop and found The Buddha bracelet. It is funny how I found more of this jewelry with Hinduism and Buddhism symbol which I love, here in Nusa Tenggara just when I do not look for it. Yet when I looked for it in Tibet and Nepal the last time I traveled, I found none.

Doesn't life work like that, too? What is meant for us will be ours. It might not always comes at the time we desire, at the time we want for it, at the time we look for it. But isn't when it is at the right space and continuum, then we finally will feel its presence without having to force anything? Might as well just, recite the positive mantra while enjoying the ride, then.

In The Moment

When I was a child
I remember
While we were riding on a boat
I once asked my mother
How come the trees are moving towards us

In the present day
It takes my whole conscience
 To be able to
Observe the world
Through that point of view

But, doesn't it feel content?
To wander through the days
While enjoying things
Beyond how it seems

To love your job
So much
You realize how tempting
The new piles of paper on the desk

To enjoy the long drive home
While realizing
You could dance all day long
To the new song on the radio

To enjoy the late night shift
While observing
The lights comes from
The over populated buildings

Bersusah-susah, yuk!

"Wah beneran kamu pake lip cream merk lokal W*****?

Everybody is fighting their own battles we know nothing about, katanya.

I often lose track of him.

Tapi jujur justru saya terinspirasi.

Tentang basa-basi berbobot, bagaimana nih menurut kamu? :)

Despite, Beyond Without

Artwork by Komang Kartika Dewi shot at an Exhibition at Casa Luna Restaurant
Ubud, Bali, Indonesia

I remember since I was little
My mother never told me
That to be able to live
I have to be perfect at
Being graceful without foul
Saying yes without yet
Nurture without failure

But

I remember since I was little
My mother always told me
That to be able to live
I have to try my best at
Believe in the beauty
Despite the adversity
Believe in the power of question
Despite the established statement
Believe in my intuitions
Despite the judgements

Then, who are you?
To come now
And tell me otherwise?

Positive Vibes

For me, the day of my hippocratic oath is just another celebratory milestone, it doesn't quite prove much of anything grand about me personally. But, if I see from another point of view, making others  instead of my self as the subject, I can feel the positive energy brought by so many people who do their best efforts, pound their love selflessly, and creating a space full of possibilities and chances to grow; to grow bigger, to grow better, to grow beyond what one can imagine, to be the best version of oneself.

That day is the exact proof of how grand people around me are. For with their positive vibes can I stand there that day. It is quite true when people say, you can judge someone by looking at their friends and families. For there is no way a positive vibes is not contagious.

Ibu and Bapak, ones who are willing to sit and talk things through beyond stereotypes, who urge me to dream beyond what I can imagine, Ibu who appreciates me not only when I'm good at cooking or helping her doing chores (like what most of aunties do), but also when I still have the time to do ballet in between the hectic days, when I can travel the globe using my own earnings, when my (not so great) writings got published, and when I try my best at my study. Ibu, one who taught me to appreciate people beyond gender, ages, and cultural & social stereotypes.

My man, who present the best version of himself hence there is no way for me to not do the same. Who provides the space for us to grow yet also reminds ourselves again and again to enjoy every minutes of life.

My dear friends and sisters, who see life beyond the physical things, so it is never boring and never filled with the superficials. Who value life beyond the rumour and  bring the quality conversation to each and everyday.

Positive vibes is contagious. Search one and enjoy this life from their point of view, then, we will enjoy the best sceneries, though it might not be from the most comfort corner, I guess?

What Day Was It?

In the mood of: Alicia Florrick

Show me a picture
I want to see the face of the woman
Who made you forget the one you had at home
What day was it and
What excuse did you feed me
I used to thank the universe
For bringing you to me
Did you enter her right as
I asked the almighty
To grant you all you wanted
Did you find it in her
Did you come crawling out of her
With what you couldn't in me

A Decade

Speaking about relationship, I've never been a fan of it. There is this one history of mine which makes me thinking like Summer Finn from 500 Days of Summer, I am always afraid when it comes to interpersonal relationship. I am afraid of the future of the relationship, will it lasts long? I am afraid of the state of mind of this other person, will they change someday? I am afraid of their reliability on trust issues, it is hard for me to fully trust on another person.

So, I always think thousand before speaking about the detail of my relationship with my man. I try to make most of our story private, because I do not have the confidence that everything I hold dear now will always be okay and able to last long. Initially, I did not even dare to say how long exactly we have been together...

But how come with such condition we are able to stay together this whole decade?

Love?

Does it really exist?

I may be afraid of the form of relationship. But maybe I do not afraid of love. I never hesitate to care about someone I hold dear. I never hesitate to do everything in my power to support them. This time, I would like to take a moment to overcome my fear, I will try to share a little detail of us, to put a little confidence in this relationship, that it will be able to last long.

10 years, have I ain't bored? Never once, clearly we are in a long distance relationship, starting the 8th year on long distance now so we even rarely meet! But mostly, because we work our best in this relationship, I suppose. Love is a verb so there has to be an effort. In everything. Learn one or two things every now and then, share a new perspective, is a common thing for both of us. A little example; I am a dentist yet I love to read business or management matters once or twice thus I can understand a little about his world. He works in corporation but once or twice he asked me about the medical/health issues. We are willing to learn each other and always be the best version of ourselves.

Have we never fight? We have. I do not know, maybe it's just because of the way our minds work, but when we fight, mostly both of us never been so attached to each of our emotions. We talked everything through, calculate the cause of the problem, the problem itself, and how to solve it. We fought a good fight and win it. Mostly, we simplify matters so it is always less drama.

What makes him stand out in my eyes? First, he is open minded I feel like I could share even my most peculiar ideas and dreams with him. Second, he is always willing to be better and to not stay in the comfort zone. What is the point of a relationship if it is only for settling down? It has to be able to empower each other, no? For I heard that two is stronger than one. Third, I am complicated, really, I am stubborn and opinionated, I have my insecurities, I have trust issues, and I actually am not a family person, but he could bring his part and balance me on those matters. And a lot more...

How can we bear the long distance for 7 years? Independency. I always try not to depend on anyone other than my self and god. For me, he does not always have to be present, even at my important moment such as graduation or birthday or even when I have to be hospitalized, if it really is not possible. I do not like to get anxious over small things like that, I am okay if he is unpresent for I can spend the time with more people; friends and families. The art of letting go. I love it seeing him succeed, so if in order to get that, he has to travel thousand miles then go for it. That is the form of my love and support for him, not to tie him close to me, but to let him go, explore the world and its possibilities, and be the best version of himself. And I feel like he does the same for me too, we do not tie each other, both of us could really freely breathe.

What is the hardest thing about the long distance? For me, the longing, of course!

Last August 17th was our 10th year together. A decade it is. And no matter how sometimes I still do not have the confidence, I really wish us another decades to come :)

August, Milestones Month of Mine

Bouquet from Him

Bouquet from My Cousin

Cake from Ibu

Cake from My Cousin

Been two months since the last time I blogged. Where have I been? Suddenly it is August already and thank god everything goes quite well, actually. August always has been my milestones' month. I was born in August, I did agree to date my man in August, and this year I passed my Indonesian dentist competence test also in August.

Yes that was why I've been missing these past two months, focusing my time and my mind for the test. Never have I expect that the good news will also come in August, well now I could say that it was a little gift from my self to me in this 25th birthday of mine, an unofficial title of DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) finally! (The official will be after I say my hippocratic oath).

A lot has been happened these past 2 years and somehow it makes me get closer to Ibu. So, this year's birthday feel completely different because I feel like I know her more and she knows me more. We celebrate it in a very modest dinner yet we know that no matter what, we will always have each other's back and total support, for everything, thus we can be the best version of ourselves.

Thank you Bank Jatim! All products from: The Body Shop

Also got a present from Bank Jatim. Have to thank them for being thoughtful enough in giving me body care products just in time when I ran out of them, haha. In my previous blog post about On (not so) Solo Travel to Bali I have mentioned that some debit or credit card will give you some benefit, you just have to check for one that fit you best. Do not settle for less if you could get more. Do not settle for conventional bank account if you could get a little extra benefit by their other products. For example this Jatim Prioritas I sign up for. I will not talk about investment or bank products here, you may check it in their website HERE.

What I'm trying to say is as we get older, like me now, I realise that I have to open my eyes more to another possibilities. I have to be smarter in choosing every basic needs for my life, thus I give my self the credits it deserved :P

A Quick Birthday Dinner with a View

Celebrate my birthday with my cousin (again) in an impulsive supper. At 9 pm we decided to go for some coffee and we ended up at this cafe, one hour drive from our home with a citylight view. The food and coffee here is not the best, but the moment we shared is perfect. Overviewing life in some  (intriguing) conversations over cups of coffee while thank God for the years he blessed us with, is the best kind of celebration.

That Happy Face upon Hearing my Favorite Billy Joel's Just The Way You Are :)

One of Very Few Photos of Us (Along all these years!)

At weekend, me and my man attend Jazz Gunung and we could not be happier for its perfect timing. Just after my birthday, our anniversary, and the new title I got, and a quick refresh in between his hectic work, watching the saxophone and piano played under the constelations and cold weather felt perfectly comforting.

Despite the hardships, a moment like this, is the perfect time to thank God for all the blessings he blesses us with and a reminder to enjoy this blessings in the best way possible.
